What I learnt in 2016

2016 has been a strange year, it's been one of those years that I have watched so many horrible things happen to the people I love and to the world, yet personally, this year has overall been a good one. Of course I was challenged (A LOT) but I have also grown a lot, learnt a lot and had some amazing opportunities. So I want to take the time to talk through the things that I have learnt within the last 365 days that are 2016.

#AntiBullyingWeek

This week  marks anti bullying week, so I thought that it is important that I take the time to blog about it. Over 25,700 children and young people spoke to Childline last year regarding bullying. (NSPCC) Already this number is absolutely shocking but there are also so many children and young people who don't speak. Unfortunately, bullying is no longer something that just happens in a playground, but a rising amount of bullying now happens behind screens. Suicide is the third leading cause of death in young people, with victims of bullying being 9 times more likely to take their own lives. The link between suicide and bullying is scary, if only we could tackle bullying and save these lives. So I want to take the time today to share my bullying story with you.

Life as an Emet Sufferer

Emetophobia is something that I have only recently been diagnosed with, before the diagnosis i thought i was the only person to feel this degree of fear towards vomit. No one likes to be sick and i think this is where it becomes hard for people to understand emetophobia. It is an anxiety condition that if not controlled can take over your life. I was fortunate enough, however in quite a lot of people it can trigger OCD and even eating disorders. I wanted to take the time today to explain what life as an emet sufferer is like, because the day to day difficulty is often over looked and even mocked.
So i want to let you in on a bad emet day.

Anxiety In All Its Glory

When reading about anxiety we all told the same things; the heart palpitations, sweating and the difficulty concentrating but I thought in this post I would explain the side effects that I have experienced through my battle with generalised anxiety that are not discussed all that often.

An open letter to my 16 year old Self

To my 16 year old self,

How are you? Stupid question right? I know things suck right now but I'm you,we are approaching 20 years old and we are happy, an emotion that you rarely feel at this point in time but trust me, you will feel it again. When I think back to you I realise how much I have learnt and thought I would write you a letter of hope.

Taking Mental Health Days

More and more we hear about "Mental health days" but what exactly does this mean?
A mental health day is a day where you give yourself a break, you give your brain and body a break from all the stresses that life throws at you and you do things that make you happy. Mental health days are typically days taken off from work or school in order to recuperate.

Dealing With Triggers

Whilst in recovery you will find yourself having to deal with your triggers. I have always known what triggers my anxiety and over the years I have learned to deal with it and until the other night I would have 100% said that I am currently living a nice anxiety free life and have not needed to worry about any triggers for a while.
