Life as an Emet Sufferer

Emetophobia is something that I have only recently been diagnosed with, before the diagnosis i thought i was the only person to feel this degree of fear towards vomit. No one likes to be sick and i think this is where it becomes hard for people to understand emetophobia. It is an anxiety condition that if not controlled can take over your life. I was fortunate enough, however in quite a lot of people it can trigger OCD and even eating disorders. I wanted to take the time today to explain what life as an emet sufferer is like, because the day to day difficulty is often over looked and even mocked.
So i want to let you in on a bad emet day.

Anxiety In All Its Glory

An open letter to my 16 year old Self

To my 16 year old self,

How are you? Stupid question right? I know things suck right now but I'm you,we are approaching 20 years old and we are happy, an emotion that you rarely feel at this point in time but trust me, you will feel it again. When I think back to you I realise how much I have learnt and thought I would write you a letter of hope.

Taking Mental Health Days

A mental health day is a day where you give yourself a break, you give your brain and body a break from all the stresses that life throws at you and you do things that make you happy. Mental health days are typically days taken off from work or school in order to recuperate.

Dealing With Triggers

Whilst in recovery you will find yourself having to deal with your triggers. I have always known what triggers my anxiety and over the years I have learned to deal with it and until the other night I would have 100% said that I am currently living a nice anxiety free life and have not needed to worry about any triggers for a while.

"Schools out for summer"

Its that time of year where finally the holidays are in sight, be that because exams are over or the stressful academic year is coming to an end but what now? Many people with mental illnesses can find this particular period hard as there is no longer a structure to their lives and structure is incredibly important in recovery. In this post I will give you some tips that I have found helpful to ensure that your holidays won't be wasted and so that you can continue to feel good in yourself.

Exam Stress

It is that horrid time of year again, you know what I'm talking about, exams! I am the first person to find myself wriggling in anxiety, especially at my oral exams which for me are the worst of the worst exam wise. So how can you help yourself during this stressful time of the year. Of course different things work for different people and so what works for me may not work for you. However, here are the things that help me:
